A Bicycle in the Works

All the world is like a milk factory. The machinery of state is busy homogenising the disturbances of difference to water us down. Smooth, uniform, thin and inane. So throw a bicycle in the works and stir the pot back to a raw milk kind of life. Let the fat of difference swim and circulate of its own accord. Better to be disturbed and hit a few clots of life in the raw than to sink into the senescence of an unending bath in pure homogenised milk. Or so my theory goes. The Luddite Frontier

The last bastion of honest design is under threat. The last outpost of honest outcomes from honest effort is about to loose the plot. Taking a pitch from the world of powered leaf blowers, fully automatic espresso coffee machines and electric window winders comes what might possibly represent the most useless technological leap of all time. And it's pitched at the hitherto unblemished sobriety of bicycling design. No, I am not referring to frames made from bamboo. Or even fixed gear urban bikes. No, it's worse than all that. A cancer has appeared to fester on the frames of the pristine world of form and function melded through the honest effort of achievements hard won. A Bridge to Hell

A bridge seems as good a place as any to draw together all the really, deeply nasty bits of human nature that manifest as violence and tribal hatred levelled at cyclists from those who drive cars. There's this bridge I know where the issues of cyclist-targetted road rage are as sharply revealed as though via a surgeon's knife. It's also a great place to study those whose mouths froth in fury every time they encounter a bike. Study them as in a laboratory. So I did some tests...
